The Famili OT008 Oven Thermometer is a dual probe Digital Wireless thermometer that allows you to accurately cook by monitoring both your meat and oven/grill/smoker temperature remotely from 300 feet away. Stop getting up and sitting back down to check on your meat and just await the Famili Meat Thermometer's alarm when your meat is cooked to perfection or when the BBQ/OVEN/SMOKER is at your set temperature range. Find yourself using the same temperature for a few recipes? No worries, the Famili cooking Thermometer stores both temperature settings and timer settings. This unit has a back lit LCD display that's easy to view in low light conditions, coupled with a belt clip which allows for complete mobility. Question: Can this be used in the grill and how long are the wires
Answer: Great unit. Both probes are designed for interior usage. One is to be used to monitor the interior temperature of the smoker while the other is a typical insertion probe for whatever you are cooking. Unit provides constant readout of both temperatures.

Question: Can you switch between oven temp and meat temp on the transmitter? I only see meat temp in the pics.
Answer: it cycles between the 2 inputs. you can set both probes to read 2 meats

Question: So when using in the oven, do you just run the wire out and shut the door on it? Does that eventually damage the probe wire?
Answer: Yes. I doubt it will damage the probe. The oven door is not going to close with much force.

Shipped fast. I'd been looking for a Wireless Digital Remote to use with long cooks. The convenience factor was my motivation. I did my "home work" and decided that a Bluetooth model would not provide the range that I wanted/needed. After I "stumbled" across the Famili Wireless product I read the reviews and was somewhat conflicted. The product had some stellar reviews but then I noticed that a majority of the reviews I read were written by customers who had received the product for free or at a discount for an "unbiased" review. Reading some of the product reviews "cons", i.e. can only adjust up and not down etc., I did have some doubts. In the final "analysis" I decided to trust that the incentivized reviews were sincere. That and the low cost pushed me over the edge and I decided to give it a go. The product was as represented. I found the instructions clear and easy to read. My first cook using the FWDR went smooth. I was able to be in all rooms of my home and receive grill and meat probe temps. I've used this on a total of 4 cooks and plan on using it on a lot more. I am happy with my decision to purchase and will recommend the FWDR to family and friends.

I bought this thinking I would save some $ and you get what you pay for. The transmitter part works good but the wireless receiver is constantly not picking up the signal and show no information. I've replaced the batteries with new ones and still the same problem. Has not worked right since day one.

Update on this review - I promptly received a refund for the defective device and have to say that they have excellent customer service and stand by what the sell.

Product works quite nicely. Two things I would like to see improved. First the instructions nor the transmitter have any indication on which plug is for the meat thermometer and which is for the environment thermometer. Only the picture on the box provided the necessary information. Second, there is no bag or box to store the devices other than the shipping box. Range and accuracy seem good.

I purchased the Famili OT008 about month ago and have used it 3 times, each experience has been great. I have had no issues with the set up or operation of the thermometer. I've done pork shoulder and brisket in my traeger smoker, and it seems like the thermometer is very accurate when measuring the smoker temp as well as food temp. I researched this unit and a thermopro, and the reviews were slightly better for the Famili unit. Again, I've been very happy with this thermometer.

This is my first attempt at remote monitoring my smoker so I don't have a frame of reference other than the old fashioned method of constantly checking the temperature of my meat and relying on the built in thermometer in my smoker or grill. But when I decided to start smoking brisket and pork shoulder I knew my limited attention span would lead to trouble given the 12+ hours required to slow smoke those large cuts of meat.

I didn't want to invest a ton of money on a remote thermometer because I wasn't sure it was going to help me make better smoked food.

First of all, I was amazed at how far off the built in thermometer was in my smoker. This unit indicates my smoker thermometer is off about 65 degrees. That explains why everything cooked so fast, my water boils out quicklye, etc. So from that perspective, I've already had a big WIN because I can slow down the cooking time for more tender results.

Second, being able to constantly monitor the internal temperature of the meat I'm smoking is a huge plus. If you are like me and constantly check, this will save you time, yield better results (by keeping your smoker/grill at a constant temperature) and with both Smoker, and Meat alarms you'll know exactly when your heat is too high, too low or your meat has reached the target temperature.

So far, I am very happy with the performance of this unit but time will be the ultimate judge as reliability has yet to be verified.

Pros:
Rubber protective case
Easy to read backlit display
Seems to be accurate
Good price

Cons:
Programming is a bit "unfriendly". You'll want to hang on to those instructions.

I'll post a durability update in a few months after I've used a few dozen more times.

Hunger for a festive feast led to a "bumper" Christmas and strong finish to 2017 for retailers, a report says.

Like-for-like sales increased by 1% in December compared with the previous year, said the British Retail Consortium (BRC)-KPMG research.

Food sales were the major contributor to the growth, with non-food sales sluggish, the BRC said.

Morrisons releases its Christmas trading update on Tuesday, with Tesco and Sainsbury's later this week.

"It delivered the majority of sales growth for the month, proving even bigger than the Black Friday period - which is the reverse of what we saw the year before."

Shoppers held out until the last moment for their festive needs, with sales for Christmas week up 40% compared with other weeks of the month, she added.

Sales grew by 1.2% overall in 2016, but Ms Dickinson warned that 2017 would be a challenge with inflation set to pick up, "and persisting economic and political uncertainty".

Paul Martin, UK head of retail at KPMG, who help to produce the report, suggested that consumers had "splashed out on treating themselves" ahead of predicted price rises next year.

A raft of retailers are due to report their Christmas trading statements this week.

Later on Tuesday, Morrisons is expected to report sales growth of 1.1% for the nine weeks to 1 January, according to an average of analysts' forecasts, a fifth consecutive quarter of growth.

Sainsbury's publishes its update on Wednesday, while Marks and Spencer and Tesco report on Thursday.
